What is carbon fiber wall reinforcement?

Carbon fiber reinforcing straps adhered to concrete or masonry foundation walls with epoxy to arrest and stabilize minor structural movement, bowing, or cracking without excavation.

Carbon fiber wall reinforcement uses high-strength composite straps bonded directly to foundation walls with structural epoxy to stop or slow minor bowing and horizontal cracking in basement walls. The system works by adding tensile strength where concrete or masonry has begun to move inward or develop stress fractures, typically from soil pressure, water infiltration, or poor original construction.

The straps, usually 2 to 4 inches wide and up to 40 mils thick, are applied vertically or diagonally across affected sections of the wall. They transfer lateral loads more evenly across the wall surface and can typically handle pressures between 15,000 and 50,000 pounds per linear inch, depending on strap thickness and epoxy quality. This capacity makes the system suitable for minor structural issues but not for severe wall displacement or active foundation failure.

The main advantage is speed and cost compared to wall replacement or full external excavation and underpinning. The system requires no digging, minimal interior disruption, and cures quickly. However, it is a stabilization method, not a permanent fix for walls under sustained pressure or those with major structural damage.

The approach works best when combined with interior drainage systems to manage water pressure pushing against the wall.
